Parents Just Don't Understand

My parents hated this song when it came out and wouldn't let my brother or I listen to it. I think it was because of how it portrayed parents - stupid, out of touch with reality, and unsympathetic to the needs of their children. This was the same reason why The Simpsons were banned in our house as well. Now that I am a parent, I can understand more where they were coming from and I hope that my son will never see me or his father as parents that are out of touch with his needs and desires. As I reflect on Father's Day, I am thankful that my son has a father who loves him and is a real part of his life. It is easy to take that for granted, as more and more kids are being raised without a father in the home, or a father who is never around or is emotionally detatched. I pray that God would give us the grace to always be there for our child(ren?) and to make the effort to be a part of their world as we seek to understand them and their culture. Parenting is definitely not easy - I realize that more and more each day. But what a blessing children are! I am honored that God chose me to be Jaron's mommy and that He gives me the strength each day to do it. I pray that God will teach my husband and I more and more each day how to be the godly parents that Jaron needs. My ultimate pray is that Ben will be the kind of father to Jaron that makes it easy for him to understand what his heavenly father is like. That his earthly father will love and care for him in such a way that when he hears of a father that does those things perfectly, it will not be hard for him to grasp the concept of being a son to the Most High God. May the Holy Spirit begin a work in Jaron's life, even today, to draw him to his Father.
