Rice Rice Baby

Well, Jaron has entered a new stage in life. On Saturday he ate his first solids! Now some of you may be thinking, “What? He just started eating solids NOW?!” To answer that question simply, YES! It was actually Doctor’s orders that we wait to start feeding him. So our big 8 ½ month old had his first new taste and he actually liked it.

We gave him rice cereal, and even though he only put down a couple spoonfuls, he seemed to enjoy the new experience. Being the big boy that he is, he wanted to feed himself so it wasn’t the cleanest experience that we have had.

So we decided to give him a bath after he ate. We bought a blow-up bathtub to help transition Jaron into the big bathtub. We hadn’t used it yet, but we figured since Jaron was being such a big boy with eating that we would try him in the big boy bathtub too. Well, as soon as his toes hit the water he started screaming! He refused to sit in the tub and acted like we were at the doctor’s office getting shots! He never acts like that so we took him out and tried to calm him down. So now I fear that he has been traumatized by the experience and will never want to go back in the tub! He has never had a fear of water before, so we were quite surprised by his reaction. Hopefully, it was just something that was in the water (no pun intended).

Banned in the USA

At youth group last night, we talked about profanity and the use of the tongue. This was an issue that the youth felt was one of the biggest issues that people their age deal with. It is interesting to me that they see this issue as so serious for their age group. But when you think about it, cussing is all around them - from TV to movies to video games to music. Many of these high school students are even cussed out by their parents. I was quite impressed at hearing some of the questions that they came up with, and struggled with, when discussing their language. Some felt that the use of profanity can be appropriate if used in certain contexts, while others felt that there are concrete lines that should be drawn in terms of what words we use, as Christians. Many wondered what the difference was between using words that are considered cuss words and using a word with the same meaning that is more acceptable. Is it the actual word that shouldn’t be used or is it the meaning of the word, or the way in which we use the word? Is it ok to cuss around other Christians that know you well, but not ok around those who you want to be a witness around? Is language a clear-cut issue or is it something that should be determined by each individual? Is our use of language a cultural thing? Who decides what kind of speech we should have? These were all questions that they rose last night, along with many others. Any insight on the issue would be great as we will continue to discuss this issue.

Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay

This past weekend we went to visit with some family. They have horses and we were all able to ride, even Jaron! So on Jaron's 8 month birthday, he rode his first horse. I don't think he really knew what to think about that, but he was not at all afraid of the horse, which I guess is a good thing. Unfortunately, that was not the highlight of the trip for Jaron. Ben's aunt and uncle also have dogs and one of them just gave birth to 8 puppies. Jaron LOVED them!

He was pulling their ears and trying to pick them up, treating them like his little toy! He also loved watching the older dogs run and yelp around the yard. Then on Sunday we were at a friends' house and they had a dog and Jaron had a great time playing on the floor with him. I am so depressed! If any of you know me well, you know that I HATE dogs! There have been a couple of dogs in my life that I haven't minded, but for the most part, I am just NOT a dog person. But my son loves them so much that I may have to give in and get him a dog. What will I do???

Let's Get It Started

Well, being the strong independent woman that I am, I have given into peer pressure and am finally doing a blog. I have been thinking about doing one for a while, but part of me was too lazy to do it, and the other part of me didn't want to jump onto the blog bandwagon! But here I am! This blog will mainly just be my thoughts on life, as a Christian woman, wife, first-time mom, and Sr. High Youth Coordinator. Probably most posts will just be pictures of my son, cuz I think he is the cutest baby in the world! Hopefully, I won't bore you too much (if I do, don't read my blog)!

I have just decided, after creating my title for this post, that I am going to try to have all of my entry titles come from a rap song (probably mostly from 80's and early 90's rap, since that is what I grew up on). I probably won't be able to keep this up for more than a week, but it will be fun while it lasts. So it is your job, as my reader, to guess the artist and/or rap song. Whoever guesses correctly WINS! Today's title is the name of TWO rap songs (that I know of), each from a different decade. Can you name both the artists?
