Why I am not on the foreign mission field
Last night, my husband and I were watching TV, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted something moving on the wall. I turn and see a HUGE roach, the size of my middle finger, making its way across the wall. I immediately start yelling to Ben to kill it. Unfortunately, it didn't come out that coherently and by the time Ben realized what I was talking about, the roach had made its way to the top of our futon. Because it was on an uneven surface, it made for an awkward kill so when Ben hit it, it fell between the cracks out of sight. Now, if you don't know this already, roaches are sneaky little critters (that is partly why I hate them so much, plus the fact that they are so fast, ugly, and multiple like crazy). We had no idea where it went. There was no way that I was going to be able to sleep knowing that a big mama roach was in my house somewhere. And I made sure to let Ben know that! So, he spent the next half hour turning the room upside time in search of the nasty little sucker. When he was about to give up, and I resigned myself to the fact that I would never go in that room again, he spotted the cockroach hiding between some tapes, just waiting patiently for us to forget about him. So he is dead now, and I was able to rest easy. But if I ever see another one, we are getting an exterminator!
Ugh, I don't want to think about it anymore, so here are some happy photos of Jaron a couple of weekends ago during his first time in the water. He loved it!

Dada
Jaron has started chattering a lot more these days. His favorite word to say is "dada". Of course, Ben thinks that Jaron is actually refering to him when he says this, but I'm not buying it (after all, his first word would HAVE to be mama, right?!). Jaron does love his daddy though. It is fun watching him "study" his dad while he does things, whether it be working on the computer, fixing something, or mowing the lawn. Jaron tries to "help" his dad whenever possible, even though it usually is not very helpful.

He also enjoys just chillin' with his daddy. Whenever he is with his dad, he is more calm and well behaved and will just sit with him. However, when Jaron is with me he loves to climb all over me and play wrestle! Shouldn't this be the other way around? ![]()

1 Month To Go
Saturday was Jaron's 11 month birthday. Wow! I can't believe that in less than a month we will be celebrating his 1st year of life! Time flies! Jaron decided to celebrate his 11 month birthday by falling down the stairs. We were at my parents' house and everyone thought that someone else was watching Jaron, so it turned out that none of us were watching him. We discovered this fact when we heard him screaming and found him laying on his back at the bottom of their stairs, all alone. Since no one was there watching him, we have no idea how far up the stairs he had actually gotten. But, as with most accidents with children, he is fine and just has a small bruise on his forehead to show for it. But it sure made me feel like a lousy parent!

Road Trip
We survived our first big road trip with Jaron. This past weekend we went to St. Louis with my Youth Group on what we call, (creatively) “Road Trip”. The basic idea of the Road Trip is that we take the Youth to an undisclosed location and just give them an opportunity to hang out with eachother while being somewhere and doing things that many of them have never done before. They just show up to the church, get on the van and we never tell them what they are doing for the entire trip. We don’t let ANYONE know where we are going – not even parents! It’s a lot of fun for the high schoolers and has always been something they look forward. So anyways, we took them to St. Louis this year and I decided to brave the traveling and take Jaron along. Ben and I drove our own car and caravanned with the other two vans. I was quite worried and anxious about the whole thing, seeing that the furthest we had ever driven with Jaron before was Atlanta! So we packed the car with toys, books, videos, and a TV that ben’s brother-in-law and sister lent to us, and we were on our way! We left the church at 5:45am, and to our wonderful surprise, Jaron slept for 3 hours until we stopped for breakfast! And then after breakfast, he slept in the car until we stopped for lunch! Jaron never takes long naps so this was quite a surprise for us. By the time we had stopped for lunch, we were an hour outside of St. Louis and Jaron was awake that whole time, but he just played with his toys and we sang “Old McDonald” to him, until we couldn’t think of anymore animals. Once in St. Louis we had a pretty jam-packed schedule and Jaron just went along with it all, not crying much and letting all the teenage girls hold him.![]()
We stayed with some friends that night, who live on the property of New City Fellowship, St. Louis, which was where everyone else was staying. Jaron only woke up once that night and the next night he slept through the night. What a blessing! We are so proud of our little boy for how well he did on the trip, and so thankful to God for answering our prayers for trip.
While in STL, Jaron took his first trip to the zoo and I think he enjoyed it. He especially liked the birds

and the bears ![]()
and I think he thought the giraffes were pretty neat too. ![]()
Probably the coolest animals (no pun intended) were the penguins. Man can those animals swim fast and leap!
In unrelated news, the day before we left for the Road Trip (Wednesday, June 29), Ben and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary. According to tradition, the appropriate gifts would be leather (while the modern gift would be crystal). So we’ll be waiting for our gifts!

Game Over
The "name that rap song from the entry title" game is officially over. I told you it wouldn't last long. It just takes too much creativity, which I seem to lack these days. PLUS, no one really plays, so why waste my time? I may come back later with a short series of other guessing games, like lines from movies, or 80's songs, or cheesy love songs, - we'll see. But for now, my entry titles will be regular, boring titles. For those of you that actually cared about my game, here are the answers to all the titles:
"Let's Get It Started" - MC Hammer or Black Eyed Peas
Bow Wow Wow Yippy Yo Yippy Ya - a line taken from Snoop Dogg's song. "Who Am I (What's My Name)" (also found in other rap songs)
"Banned in the USA" - 2 Live Crew
"Rice Rice Baby" - Weird Al
"Where Is the Love?" - Black Eyed Peas
"Fat Boys are Back" - The Fat Boys
"California Love" - Tu Pac Shakur (feat. Dr. Dre)
"Life Is Too Short" - Too Short
"Parents Just Don't Understand" - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
