Babies and Jealousy

Jaron and I went to visit little Luke Gregory Wilhelm yesterday. And boy is he LITTLE! He was 4 lbs. 15 oz. at birth, about half the size Jaron was when he was born! He is sooo precious and cute. Esther and Greg should be very proud. Unfortunately, I didn't get to hold him very long because my jealous son was tugging on my legs and whining while I was holding him. He has never really acted that way before, so I don't know if he has entered a new stage of life where jealousy is a big thing, or if he was just tired and sick of being in the hospital. I also have never held a baby that young before so i wonder if that had anything to do with it. I guess it is good I am not having a baby any time soon!

From the look of pride on Alli's face, you would think it was HER baby!

Here it is

This has been going around the blog world for a while. I read on Michelle's blog that I have now been chosen to keep it going. Since Jaron was asleep, I had the time, so here it is:

10 years ago: I was a freshman at Covenant College, rooming with a Senior soccer player, Lisa “Mort” on The Jungle (during its more wild days). I was adjusting to being away from California and trying to get used to southern accents! Making some bad friend choices (which I didn’t realize until the next semester) and working on gaining my Freshmen 25 (which I didn’t realize until I stepped off the plane in San Francisco in December and my mom almost passed out when she saw me!)

5 years ago: I was working at New City Fellowship as the Assistant Youth director and head of Publications. In July I had gone to Africa (Kenya and Uganda) for the 2nd time in my life and LOVED it! There is just something about that place – EVERYONE needs to go. I was living at the party house on St. Elmo Ave. with Sarah Armes and Gurney. Hmmm… it could’ve been this day exactly that Ben and I started dating (Ben would probably remember the exact date – he remembers things like that). It was Day of Prayer for Covenant, so Ben spent the day “praying” with me. By the end of the day we were a couple!

1 year ago: I was enjoying my 1 ½ month old son. My family had moved to Chatt-town just 1 month before Jaron was born, so I was getting used to having them around. We went on Jaron’s first road trip to the ATL for my nephew’s 3rd birthday. It was also the first time that he slept away from home, since we stayed the night at my bro’s house.

Yesterday: Stayed home most of the day playing with my boy. He is at such a fun age right now – my favorite age so far. We worked on walking and he took TWO steps! Yeah – we are almost there! Went to Old Navy and bought myself a sweater for $6.49, 2 shirts for Ben for $2.97 each, and 2 shirts for Jaron, 2 for $10. We try to get out of the house at least once everyday, once we get tired of playing with toys.

5 snacks I enjoy: Fruit (watermelon, grapes, cherries, plums, pineapple, etc.) – but it is hard to find good fruit here, chocolate chip cookies warm out of the oven with a tall glass of milk (I never make them though because Ben hates chocolate), a cup of chai (African style), which I haven’t had in a long time because I need to buy some decaf, donuts, and pizza (ok maybe that is not a snack, but I am always in the mood for pizza)

5 songs I know all of the words to: Hmmm…too many to count… almost every song that we sing at church (or that I have sang in past churches), Endless Love by Lionell Ritchie and Diana Ross, Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Cool It Now by New Edition, Girl You Know Its True by Milli Vanilli (or whoever was singing)

5 things I'd do with 100 million dollars: Pay off debt, buy a beautiful big house in North Chattanooga, buy a NEW car (I would love an Escalade or Hummer, but since it is not very practical, I’d probably end up with a mini-van), Buy property and build a camp for New City (to be used for inner city kids and youth, and we would rent it to local churches to use when it is unoccupied), pay off debt for everyone in our family

5 places I'd run away to: A beach house on un-crowded beach, Uganda, Hawaii or a Carribean Island (I’ve never been but I am sure I would like it!), Scotland (never been there either), a New England State in the Fall (once again I have never been there, but pictures look beautiful)

5 things I'd never wear: I will have to give an amen on the fanny pack, bikini – besides the fact that it looks like you are wearing underware, having a 9lb. 7oz. Baby has permanently destroyed my stomach and I don’t want anyone to have to look at that, cowboy boots, halter top, multi-colored layered socks (ok I admit that I wore them in the eighties, but I sure hope that fashion doesn’t come back)

5 favorite TV shows: 24 (best show on TV – if you have never seen it, rent the past seasons to catch up and start up in January when this season starts), Lost (a very well done show), ER (it definitely isn’t as good as it used to be, but I am a die hard fan), CSI and CSI Miami, and the following reality shows, probably in order: The Apprentice, The Amazing Race, and Survivor

5 biggest joys: God’s gift of Salvation, My husband and son, reading or writing at the beach while listening to the waves crashing, or taking a walk on the beach, a good night’s sleep!, family and friends

5 favorite toys: my Kitchen Aid mixer, digital camera, my CDs, laptop, my shoes

5 people I want to pass this on to: The Davicks, Christina, Jonathan (because he has nothing better to do J), Ben (yes it is time to activate your blog again), Rob.

Google Blog Search

OK, call me stupid, but how does the new Google Blog Search work? Does it list sites in order of which have the most hits? I typed in "laini" and my blog never showed up (or at least not for the first 25 pages). It's interesting how popular blogs are becoming though, that Google would make a search engine just for them.

Barry Bonds is Back

It's about time too. I must admit that I didn't think it would happen this year. But Barry Bonds made his 2005 debut yesterday and helped to propel the Giants to much needed win against first place San Diego. I doubt he will get back to where he was before, but hopefully he still has some of that power swing in him to help the Giants out a little here as they make a run for the National League West title. Yes, the Giants are still in it folks! If only we had Bonds all season, there wouldn't even be a division race right now. It's a good thing that everyone else in the West sucks. GO GIANTS!!

A weekend with old friends

This past weekend was busy spending time with old friends. We spent Friday and Saturday in Atlanta for the wedding of a high school buddy of Ben's.
Ben was a groomsman in the wedding so we got to enjoy all the festivities involved around the wedding. Jaron did a great job behaving himself at everything and I can't even count how many people came up to me and told me what a good boy he was. Way to go Jaron! The wedding was beautiful and I know it was good for Ben to be with his friend again. Ben stayed with the groom and groomsmen Friday night, so Jaron and I were on our own and stayed with my bro and his family. Even though I was with family, I felt like a single mom until we were able to reunite with Ben after the wedding. That is too long for me! I don't know how families make it who have husbands that travel all the time.

We were also able to spend some time with my good friends from college. There were in town for a few days and it was wonderful to see them again. They had not met Jaron before, so it was nice for Jaron to finally meet his "auntie" Julie and "uncle" Rich.
On Sunday, we met up with them and the Wiegers and had a fun time enjoying the warm weather and good friends. Jaron and Caleb took turn showing off their new "tricks" and Jaron decided to show off by taking his first step!

So it shouldn't be long before Jaron is walking circles around me.

It is nice to know that we have friends that will always be our friends, no matter how long we are apart, where we live, how our lives change, or even how frequently we keep in touch. Below are more pics from the weekend.

Jaron joins in with the dance party!
