News Flash: Smoking is harmful!
Having grown up in California, I have been shocked at how much people smoke here. Do people realize how harmful it is? Sometimes I think that they don't. In Cali, smoking is greatly looked down upon and people know the great risks of doing it. Even if people are smoking, I don't have to smell it because there are laws against smoking in most public places. If you want to kill yourself, fine, but don't kill me while you are at it! Check out this recent article that puts California ahead of the times once again. I wonder how long it will take everyone else to catch on....

Some Things to Think About
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it."
"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
"The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: 'If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: 'If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?'"
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

35 minutes until 24 season premiere
The best show on TV is coming on tonight. If you haven't seen 24 before, then you are missing out on some great television. The best way to describe the show is like watching a really intense action/thriller, and right when the movie is at a really important or suspenseful part, someone pushes pause on the DVD player. And you don't get to push play again until the next week. It's complete craziness. And I love it. It starts tonight on Fox at 8pm and is a 2 hour season premiere.

Working Towards a Roach-Free Home
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions about getting rid of roaches. We decided to go with an exterminator, hoping that they will be able to attack the problem and hopefully get rid of them quickly (I've heard that once you have roaches, you always have roaches - is this true?). So he came today and we signed a year contract for him to come every other month. I am hoping that since we are dealing with this early on, that the problem will be alleviated soon. He did say, however, that the next few days we may see a lot more roaches because they live in the walls and such, which is where he sprayed, and so they just start coming out of the woodwork (literally). I hope it isn't too bad though. I don't know how much my heart can take! He DID say that our problem is not too serious. He said that if we had a lot of roaches, he would have seen them crawling around everywhere as soon as he came in the house. Yuck! I actually did live in a house like that before I was married and you don't know how much I was counting down the days to getting married and leaving that place! Amazingly, I didn't take any of them with me when I moved and I never saw a single one in my bedroom (God knew where my limits were!). Anyways, the exterminator also commented on how clean our house is. Now that isn't something that I hear very often! But ever since I saw the first roach, I have been working my butt off to keep the house clean. Talk about motivation to clean your house! My husband has been helping too, which has been great, and hopefully we will be able to keep it up. But all this cleaning has worn me out! Today when I was cleaning the kitchen floor, my stomach started tightening (not contractions, but it was kind of similar to that feeling). So after that I figured I needed to slow down a bit. It will definitely only get harder as the pregnancy goes on to keep up with the house, but if it means no roaches then I will have to find the strength somewhere!

Roaches!!
UGH! I can't believe it. We have roaches. Yuck! If you know me at all, you should know that roaches is one thing that I cannot stand! I don't where they came - they seem to have come out of nowhere. I saw one Sunday night on our coach and I killed it (all by myself because Ben was putting the boy to bed) and was hoping (even though I knew better) that he was the only one. But then yesterday morning I saw another one on the coach and trapped it and had Ben come down from working to kill it for me. Once again I was hoping that those were the only two and that they had been brought in the house and were in something that we had put on our coach. But later that night when we were getting ready for bed, I spotted two more in the bathroom. Then when we went in the kitchen and the refrigerator door was open for Ben to get his nightly glass of water (the lights were off in the kitchen), he saw one crawling up the wall. He killed that one and then saw another crawling nearby into a crack. While I held the refrigerator door open for light, and Ben went to get some spray, I saw two more on the floor. That is when terror struck. My philosophy in life is that when I see 3 or more of something I freak out, because that means that they are everywhere! So we killed all the roaches that we could see and went to bed. This morning I killed 3 more, one escaping to darkness when I turned the kitchen light on, another in the utensil drawer, and another in the lamp shade in the living room. They have taken over my house!!
So I am thoroughly disgusted and feel like I cannot even be comfortable in my own home. So do any of you have any advice for getting rid of this nasty critters? Do any of you have any suggestions about good exterminators. There is one thing that I made very clear to my husband when we were married - that I could not live with roaches. So he knows that I will go to any and all lengths to rid my home of them. So please pass on any helpful advice. Also, does anyone know if there are certain things that may be harmful to me and my baby, since I am pregnant? Is it ok for exterminators to come and spray stuff when there is a pregnant woman in the house? I sure hope not. Cuz if it IS a problem, then they are still going to come by - I will just move in with one of my family members (so go ahead and get your guest rooms ready)!

Why My Son is Like a Dog
1. He often runs around with his tongue hanging out (maybe it is a sign of Jordan-like skills?)
2. When I am sitting down, he is usually sitting or playing at my feet. If I get up and walk somewhere, he is always right behind me.
3. Whenever we go outside and I am not carrying him, he takes off running, usually in the wrong direction. I then spend the next few minutes calling him back to me - "Jaron! Here Jaron, Jaron! Come to mommy Jaron. Come!"
4. One of his favorite games right now is fetch - I throw the ball and he goes and gets it and brings it back to me. "Go get the ball Jaron, get the ball. Good Jaron (woof)."
5. My husband usually gets up with Jaron in the morning and lets me sleep in for a little bit. When Jaron comes to wake me up, he brings me my slippers! (He does this because he knows that I always put my slippers on when I get out of bed, and then I go and get his breakfast. So to him, slippers=food).

Update on life
Well, it's been awhile since I have posted anything about what has been going on with us. I guess the craziness of the Christmas season, combined with the fact that I am never good at keeping up with my blog, has kept me away. So here is a rundown what has been going on in the Huffine household.
First, Christmas went well. We started off the day at home, opening up stockings and gifts to eachother. Jaron never quite caught on to the whole tearing off the wrapping paper thing. He was very cautious when we would give him a present to open and wasn't quite sure what to do with it. He probably was afraid that he was going to get repremanded for tearing paper and so he would always wait for me to start and then he would slowly join in.

But he loved all his gifts and was distracted enough by the presents that he even forgot about his favorite thing - BREAKFAST!
The day continued as we went to church and then headed over to my parents' house for a special Christmas Day Breakfast and to open and give presents with all the Youngs. Jaron enjoyed chillin' (a hard thing to do when the whole family gets together) in this chair.

Christmas festivities continued on the Wednesday after Christmas as we gathered together at Ben's parents' house to celebrate with them. More good food was eaten, gifts were exchanged, and the cousins entertained the adults with some Christmas carols.

Christmas came to an end this past Saturday when we went to Maryville, TN to spend the day with Ben's grandmother and all his aunts and uncles and cousins.
Our Christmas celebrations will come to an end this Sunday when we go to a Christmas party for Ben's work.
Now we are trying to settle back into normal life. The pregnancy is going well - no major discomforts yet, which is GREAT! I have been feeling the baby move, which seems to be earlier than the last pregnancy, and just this week I actually felt the baby kick as well! Of course, the baby stopped once Ben tried to feel. We have been fighting the cold over here for a couple of weeks now. Jaron and I are still in the midst of it, hoping each morning that I wake up that it will be gone.
Ben and I went to see The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe last week. It was our first time going to The Rave theatre and our first movie since Star Wars Episode 3. So it was exciting to go, to say the least. I enjoyed the movie - I have always loved the books and I felt like they did a good job in keeping with them. I would've liked to have seen Aslan protrayed better. It seems from the books that he was someone that everyone feared and were awed by. I didn't get that sense from the movie. But that is my only major complaint. I do have to say though, that Susan looked a lot like April Roe, for those of you that know her. I don't know what it was about her, but both Ben and I (seperately) thought the same thing. Don't you agree? If I had a picture of April, I would post it next to this one so you could see that I am right!

Well, now that I have completely bored everyone, I will end this rambling and go work on taking down our Christmas tree. Or maybe I will take a nap.
