Books for Kirk

Kirk tagged me a while back for this, but I haven't had the time to sit down and do it until now. It is rare for me to actually have time to just sit at the computer without one of my boys in my arms (which prohibits me from typing long entries)! But I do eventually get around to things like this, so don't worry about tagging me again for something else - it gives me something to blog about when I have a blog brain freeze! And by the way, if I remember correctly, today is Kirk's birthday. So happy birthday Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa Ward!

1. One book that changed your life: Repentance and the 21st Century Man by Jack Miller and Commentary on Galatians by Martin Luther. I read both of these books, along with listening to the Sonship tapes for the first time, when I was living at home after finishing my internship at New City. Before reading those books and hearing those tapes I don't think that I had ever truly understood the gospel and the extent of my sinfulness and how amazing God's grace is (songs I had sung all my life like Amazing Grace, Not What My Hands Have Done, And Can It Be suddenly made sense to me in a way that they never had before).
2. One book that you’ve read more than once: The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
3. One book you’d want on a desert island: I would need a book on basic survival tips. I would not make it very long living off the land. The only way that I know how to build a fire or anything like that is from watching Survivor. So you know I would be in trouble!
4. One book that made you laugh: I don't remember ever laughing out loud while reading a book. Except for comic books like Far Side. My brother got a book for Christmas one year that had a bunch of jokes by Jerry Seinfeld. I laughed out loud while reading that.
5. One book that made you cry: I don't think that I have ever cried while reading a book. But I may have wanted to cry while reading Little Women by Louise May Alcott – what girl wouldn't?
6. One book that you wish had been written: The Changing Face of Youth Ministry: The Need for Multicultural Youth Ministry. This was actually a book that I began writing, with my boss/collegue Danny Mitchell, but we never finished it. I wish that we had finished it because it is where youth ministry is headed and the church is not ready for it. Maybe someday we will finish it....
7. One book that you wish had never been written: Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler
8. One book you’re currently reading: I don't have much time to read - I wish I read more. But when I get the time, I am currently reading a book my mother-in-law gave me for Mother's Day, Parenting the Way God Parents by Katherine Koonce.
9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:? uh....I don't know. Any good book that I haven't read yet – any suggestions anyone??

Happy Birthday Ben!

Happy birthday to the most wonderful and loving husband and father! I am blessed to have you in my life and can't imagine a better father for our children. The boys love their daddy and they have a great role model to look up to as they grow into men. May God continue to mold you into the man that He desires for you to be. "Appay Baybay Daddy!"

Happy Belated Birthday!

It has been awhile since I have blogged. We have been having problems with our laptop so I haven't been able to get online much in the past week. So I would've posted yesterday, but I didn't really have computer access, nor did I have the time. Soooo.... Yesterday was Jaron's 2nd birthday! Happy birthday big boy! It is crazy to think about how quickly 2 years have gone by already! And it is so much fun to see our little baby grow into a big boy. He is at such a fun age right now and it seems like each day he is doing or saying something new. I reallly can't imagine life without him. He adds so much to our little family and definitely keeps us entertained! It is so much fun to see him as a big brother too - seeing how helpful he can be and how much he cares about his little "wise", as he calls him. I pray that God will grow him into a boy and man that loves Him with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength.

To celebrate Jaron's birthday we started off the day going to Elias' 2 month checkup. I won't give the details of that trip now because this entry is dedicated to Jaron! After the appointment we joined up with my parents and siblings at Chester Frost Park. I had never been to the beach area there, and it was surprisingly really nice. There was hardly anyone there and we were able to find a nice shaded spot on the sand where the grownups could sit while the kids played in the water. Jaron loved playing with his aunt Jasiri and dodging rocks that his uncle Isaiah was throwing at everyone.

For dinner we got pizza, Jaron's favorite, and I made a carrot cake which Jaron called "Apay Baybay" (Happy Birthday).

We gave Jaron a tricycle which he has been trying to get the hang of riding. So far, he runs into a lot of walls and tips it over trying to get off! Oh well - practice makes perfect, right? tricycle.jpg

We will have a bigger party next weekend as we celebrate with the rest of our family. Maybe by that time he will learn how to blow out a candle instead of extinguishing it with his fingers!
